I am still SLPP - Chief Kapen

Erstwhile chairman and leader of the main opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Chief Somanoh Kapen has said that “nothing will stop him from being a member of the SLPP. “I’m still SLPP through and through.”

The former SLPP Chairman was speaking on Wednesday September 20, 2017, on the outcome of the just concluded national delegate conference in Kenema.

Chief Kapen said he will sit quietly as a private member and observe the way things unfold in the party. He said will proffer advice at any point in time if called upon to do so.

He, however, ruled out the possibility of him joining the Grand Alliance Coalition, as people are speculating.
He said the SLPP has thrown away its chances of winning the March 7, 2018 multitier elections, noting that if they fail they will realise and learn from their mistakes.

Reacting to allegation that he boycotted, Chief Kapen said he did not boycott the convention because he was in Kenema and was lodged at Capitol Hotel.

“I arrived in Kenema on Thursday September 14, 2017. I was out at night and based on what I saw and heard, I decided to leave for Freetown.” “There are too many intrigues and deceptions among people in politics,” he said.

The newly elected SLPP Publicity Secretary, Lahai Lawrence Leeman said the convention was very successful because it was free and fair. He applauded the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) for providing security, and the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) and the media, civil society organisations and APC party for their support. He said the convention did not commence early because of the Muslim Friday prayer.
