JFK Declares for APC Standard Bearer


The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara has on Thursday September 21, formally declared his intention to contest for the position of standard bearer in the All People Congress (APC) party.

In an informal meeting at the APC Party headquarters in Freetown, Hon. Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara said that “today is an historical day for the JFK Foundation as I formally declare my intention and offer myself for consideration as presidential candidate for the All Peoples Congress (APC) in respect of the 2018 Presidential Election in Sierra Leone.”

He said that “over the years I have come to serve my country with distinction and extol the ideals and virtues of the working class and ordinary citizens.”

“My years in governance provided me an opportunity to contribute to the Agenda for Change and Prosperity; being the two main platforms for good governance in the last decade,” he said.

He went on to state that he has been privileged to serve his country and the APC Government as the Deputy Prosecutor of the Special Court for Sierra Leone, Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission and now Attorney General and Minister of Justice. He said that he has served in the positions with with loyalty, professionalism and sincerity.

Mr. Kamara said since 1977, he believed in the APC and continue to do so today.
He said that “It is also with fond memories that I recall my contribution as an APC polling Agent in the 1980s, to present day serving Minister under the umbrella of the APC. I have had the benefit of appreciating the workings of the party, government, dealing with the International community and more importantly, working with the ordinary Sierra Leoneans from all shades of opinions and works of life.”

Mr. Kamara said that it is evident that 2018 present an opportunity to build on the irrefutable legacy of development that President Ernest Bai Koroma and the party have achieved in governance. “To meet that aspiration, would require effective leadership, innovative thinking, dynamic energy, collaboration, integrity and accountability, which together have come to represent the person that I am today,” he said.

He further expressed his gratitude to his Chairman and Leader of the APC Party, and the entire leadership of the All Peoples Congress for the meticulous mentorship. “With a deep sense of humility, I commit to work tirelessly and to honour the trust and long cherished ideals and values of our party,” he said

He said that he will join hand with who so ever the party gives the standard bearer position, as they are all comrade, adding that he will work with that individual, but he is optimist that the APC will give him the flag bearer to run for the 2018 as the fittest candidate.

“I volunteer and submit my candidacy for consideration to represent the All Peoples Congress as its Presidential Candidate in the 2018 elections.”

National Assistance Organizing Secretary for the APC, Alhaji Mohamed D. Bangura said, on behalf of the party, that he welcomed the Anthony General and Minister of Justice along his followers to the party’s headquarters as son of the soil.

He said that the APC is a party for all, and encouraged members to be law abiding citizens, “as the APC is a party that preaches peace”.

The Party Secretary General, Ambassador Yansaneh said he had received 18 members of the party who have showed interest in contesting for the party standard bearer.
