Three Indicted for Robbery with Aggravation



Three accused persons - Mohamed Kanu, Santigie Bundu and Alimamy Turay on Friday appeared before Magistrate Albert Moody of the Freetown Magistrate Court No.1 on charges of robbery with aggravation and carrying offensive weapon.

According to the statement of offence, the accused were brought before the court on seven counts of robbery with aggravation contrary to section 23(1)(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916, carrying offensive weapon without lawful authority contrary to section 16(1) of the Public Order Act 1965 and possession of small arms without license contrary to section 11(1) of the Arms and Ammunition Act of 2012.

Particulars of offence state that, Mohamed Kanu (Alias Abass), Alimamy Turay (alias C.o.C) and Santigie Bundu (alias Tigi Bolo) on April 15, 2017, at the National Petroleum One Mille Filling Station in Lunsar, Marampa Chiefdom, Port Loko district being armed with machetes and a rifle with serial number UB60A6821 and its magazine containing ammunition, robbed Salamatu Kamara the sum of Le19,272,000, property of one Mohamed Sheik Kamara; robbed one Thomas Mansary the sum of one million leones one android mobile phone valued at Le350, 000, property of Abdul Salma Bangura; and robbed one mobile phone from Yusif Fofanah which is valued at Le120,000 .

In his testimony, police witness Detective Police Constable (DPC) 12057 Koroma B. told the court that he was on duty at the Major Incident Unit at CID Headquarters when a file of robbery with aggravation from the Lunsar Police Division was brought in.

He mentioned that on May 10, 2017 the first accused person Mohamed Kanu was arrested during a robbery incident at Mercury office at Wellington, and was also part of a team that robbed the NP filling station at Lunsar Town.

The matter was prosecuted by State Counsel A.T Rogers, while J.M Jengo Esq. represented the second accused. The first and third accused were not represented. The matter was adjourned to September 26, 2017 for further hearing.
