At the launch of the campaign at Airtel’s Head Office at Hill Station, the Managing Director, Dapu Olasope explained the dial *800# Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) code provides varying data tariffs for subscribers to browse the internet at an high speed.
He disclosed, “in most countries data and voice are the same”, adding that telecommunication globally is moving towards that drive.

Further noting that the *800# USSD code is not something new, but however the company deemed it necessary to emphasise it so that customers will make use of the facility.

The MD acknowledged that the company listen to the concerns of some of their subscribers who were unable to understand the pay as you go mechanism, thus the *800# is to give subscribers choice on data plans.

Explaining how the system works, the Acting Marketing Manager Mohamed Kuyateh said customers who subscribe to the *800# would only be able to browse from the data bundles they have purchased.

He added that when the bundles are used up or expire in line with the pack chosen, browsing will cease and one can only continue to browse when one subscribes to a new bundle via the *800#

Noting that one will not be able to browse from the main account on the phone unless a bundle is purchased. Nevertheless, he said one could continue to make calls, send SMS and subscribe to other services of choice.
