The Sierra Leone Minister for Information, Alhaji Alpha Kanu has added an all-white furnished mansion to his fleet of acquisitions, Sierraloaded gathered from social media sources.
The house which is located at Mambo near Guma Varley in Freetown is estimated by Professional estate surveyors to be worth $1Million (4Trillion Leones).
Although several social media activists has disclaimed the speculations, stating that “some unscrupulous individuals tarnishing the good image of our hard working minister of information and are bent on spoiling the image of our honourable minister”, neither the Minister nor his aides has responded to the trending speculation.
Efforts by Sierraloaded to reach the minster was abortive as several calls went unpicked. However, when Sierraloaded visited the location of the said house, It was gathered from community members that the house truly belongs to the information Minister as He has been seen visiting several times during the construction of the building.
The discovery of the Alpha Kanu’s mansion may have cast another huge credibility question on the modest and anti-corruption credentials of the highly controversial minister.
Recall that the Minister was recently in a corruption allegations where a whooping Le3Billion was allegedly spent on him alone. The Minister, while responding to the allegations boasted it is the government policy to empower citizens like him with State funds.
He further admitted that, the travel agency that sells airline tickets to all the officials in his Ministry is owned by him. “Africa Travel Centre is mine”, the Minister said.
Despite claims by the Anti-Corruption Commision (ACC) to prosecute the case, there has been no positive feedback from the Anti-graft agency since last December.
The exposure of Alpha Kanu’s hidden assets is coming at a time Sierra Leoneans have intensified calls for President Ernest Bai Koroma to make new re-shuffle of the Presidential cabinet.
Details are still sketchy as at Press time. However, Sierraloaded hopes to speak with aides of the minister in the new week.
