This is laughable, interesting and very worrisome for Post Ebola Country like Sierra Leone which needs a charismatic and prudent leader to correct the mistakes of President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma and develop on the gains he has made.
The Presidential Race or rather battle for succession in the Ruling All People’s Congress Party seems taking a dramatic twist if information reaching this author is anything to go by. Names of influential personalities came up fighting doggedly to succeed President Ernest Bai Koroma in the forthcoming presidential race.
News making the rounds discloses that those who were busy traversing the periphery of Sierra Leone and the Diaspora soliciting support from people to succeed President Koroma were commanded by the Commander-in-Chief of the APC to desist or…The statement from President Koroma at the Youth League Conference in Makeni poisoned the ambition of the intending aspirants.
President Ernest Bai Koroma sternly warned all intending flagbearers to stop perambulating the country galvanizing support. ‘I am the Captain of the team’, words of President Koroma during the Youth Conference in Makeni when his party’s Youth League was campaigning for ‘more time’ for him.
That ‘more time’ concept was another strategy to get intending aspirants discourage in pursuing their political aspirations and dreams. Most of those intending to succeed the president went under the proverbial carpet for some time until recently.
With the current trend of events in the country, the President is seen declining to attend almost all international programs. Unlike his predecessor, Vice President, Dr. Victor Bockarie Foh has been asked by his boss to represent him because of his loyalty.
It could be recalled that the statement of Victor Foh on his appointment clearly revealed that the APC is a party that rewards for loyalty. The VP in a very understandable tongue said he has no agenda; the President’s Agenda is his agenda and his loyalty is to the President. ‘I will not be a disobedient subordinate. Where he says, go I will go. He is the boss’. With such display of open loyalty by VP Voh, if you were President Koroma who needs insurance and assurance after leaving the highest office in the land, would it not be prudent to do all it takes to make VP Victor Foh succeeds you?
Many Political Pundits are convinced that the exposure President Koroma is giving his deputy is to show him the trail of succession. But has VP Foh ever expressed interest in the PRESIDENCY? This could be one among many questions running through the minds of Sierra Leoneans. To provide an honest answer to that; YES! YES! And YES!
Don’t ask me where and when he uncovered his ambition. In 1996, VP Foh unreservedly with so much attitude of gratitude accepted to contest the presidential election as running mate to Lawyer Edward Turay. A man who accepted being a second-commander will do everything to become the commander himself.
Another clear path that will force Sierra Leoneans to believe that President Ernest Bai Koroma might handpick VP Foh as his successor is the most enviable tie relationship between the First and Second Ladies, Sia Nyama Koroma and Junta Foh.
The myth in Sierra Leone is that the incredible and enviable relationship between the two top ladies in the land has never existed between their predecessors. Perhaps it could be that the two ladies know the secret we are yet to unearth.
Among members of the APC, President Ernest Bai Koroma is the most powerful politician in the party if not the country. He is perceived to be the one who will make his successor. VP Dr. Victor Bockarie Foh is apparently the greatest admirer of his boss which is evident in all his representations. In every speech he delivers, there are always bulky paragraphs containing the finest descriptions of President Koroma; PRAISE SINGING.
I will continue to observe, but now with my back let me return to my shrine.
