Armed robbery has taken centre stage at the Plum Heat Community known as Gbangban Yillah, Hill Station, where armed robbers have consistently terrorized peaceful residents.
Reports reaching the Global Times state that, in less than two weeks, over five people have suffered in the hands of armed robbers including two Members of Parliament, Hon. Dixon Rogers of the SLPP and former APC Member of Parliament, Hon. Dr. Moses Sesay, former Principal of Albert Academy Secondary School, Mr. Albert Kawa and Mr. Dauda Turay, a driver attached to the Ministry of Health and Sanitation.
Mr. Turay’s motor bike and his wife’s business money were robbed at gun point last week. As if that was not enough, the armed robbers gave a serious beating to Mr. Turay who wanted to put up resistance when his house was raided.
Most of these people lost all their valuable and money including musical sets. According to Junior Kawa, the robbers armed with dangerous weapons cut off the window of their house at about 2 a.m. and carted away all their musical sets and mobile phones.
In a bid to reduce the spate of armed robbery in their community, the youths in the Gbangban Yillah community have set up a task force of Community Safety Volunteers (CSVs) who will serve as key operational helpers in the fight against crime and the fear of crime in the community.
A spokesman of the Task Force, Mr. Alex James said that they have held meetings with the Director of Operations in the Sierra Leone Police, AIG Al-Sheikh Kamara to see how best they will cooperate to put an end or minimize the spate of armed robbery within the Gbangban Yillah community.
