The Hon. Vice President, Ambassador Dr. Victor Bockarie Foh on Tuesday 22nd November, 2016 in his capacity as Chairman of the Correctional Services Council visited the Pademba Road Male Correctional Centre.

The Hon. Vice President, accompanied by some Senior Staff from his office and members of the Correctional Services Council, was taken on a conducted tour of the Correctional facilities by the Director General and Senior Officers of the Sierra Leone Correctional Service.

Addressing officers and staff of the Pademba Road Male Correctional Centre, the Hon. VP informed them that President Koroma adopted the Correctional Act of 2014 with the view to transforming the country’s prisons from punitive to correctional facilities, stressing that Government intends to transform the prison services to correctional services where the human right of inmates are respected and Correctional Officers are capacitated to deliver quality services.

The Hon. VP informed his audience, to their delight, that his visit to the Pademba Road Facility is in line with Government’s commitment to transform the Correctional Centre in a way that will move the country to an admirable level of development.

Asked about his impression of the Pademba Road Correctional facility, the Hon. Vice President commended the transformational work done so far, which according to him is a great improvement from what use to obtain during his time as an inmate. He however noted, that there is still room for more to be done. He pledged to inform the President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma of his findings and advice Government on measures to improve on the current conditions of the facility and welfare of inmates.

Vice President Foh thanked the Director General, Management and Staff for their leadership role and encouraged them to continue their work diligently.
