President Ernest Bai Koroma has appointed Ms Isata Kabia as the acting minister of social welfare gender and children’s affairs.

Isata Kabia

The previous Ministers Alhaji Moijueh Kaikai and his deputy Mustapha Bai Atila were sacked earlier this week after an audio that went viral over the weekend, which captures a noisy scene in the office of the former, punctuated by foul-mouthed words by especially the deputy.

The sacked deputy was particularly heard using unprintable invectives against his senior colleague, who he accused of being an opposition supporter, a rapist and cocaine user, among a litany of tirades he was heard uttering.

The disgraceful altercation between the two men also left the office of the sacked minister ransacked, with broken chairs and tables, showing a chaotic scene as the two brawled. The incident has left many Sierra Leoneans aghast that men assigned to supervise women’s and children’s issues could disgrace themselves and the government publicly.
