Following the covert declaration of some members of the ruling All People Congress to succeed Ernest Bai Koroma as President of Sierra Leone, the leadership of the party does not seem to be able to control the party.
The flurry of declarations that has been taking place in the APC, secretly though, and underground campaigning is an indication that the APC that used to brand itself as the most united party is now divided just like the main opposition Sierra Leone People Party (SLPP).
The people that have either declared secretly or campaigning behind the scenes are the current Vice President Victor Bockarie Foh, the Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources, Minkailu Mansaray, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Joseph F Kamara; the UN Special Envoy on Sexual Violence and former Health Miniser Zainab Bangura and the Ambassador to the Peoples Republic of China,
Alimamy P Koroma.
Business tycoon John Sisay, Legal Luminary Abu Kalokoh, Ansumana Koroma, very recently the Special Adviser to the President, Alhaji Alpha Khan and the Bank Governor, Dr. Kelfala Marrah are very much interested in becoming the President.
The only person that has come out overtly to say that he wants to succeed the President is the late business tycoon and philanthropist, Moseray Fadika and more recently one the special adviser to the President, Alpha Kanu.
Political Analysts have opined that if the APC does not control the situation, President Koroma will leave a divided party that will be very difficult to be united.
The advise is that to avoid discontentment among the candidates, the party should ensure that there is a level playing ground and that everyone should be given the chance to contest in intra party electoral process.
