The SLPP 2012 flagbearer, Brig. (Rtd.) Julius Maada Bio has scored a significant victory in the race for the flagbearership election of the main opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) by winning more than seventy percent of the delegates in last weekend’s Constituency elections held across the country.
The 2012 SLPP Presidential candidate is reported to have dominated proceedings in all the four regions in the country and in his eastern stronghold he lost only four delegates out of eighty one (81). He polled seventy seven (77) delegates.
In the entire Southern Region, all but three delegates elected out of a total of seventy five are Bio’s supporters.
In the Western Area, Bio’s supporters are also reported to have dominated the elections clinching all executive positions in the West Rural District in Constituencies 92 and 93 and Constituencies 94 and 95 in East Rural.
In the East District, supporters of the former SLPP flagbearer won at least seven out of ten constituencies.
Bio’s supporters also won constituencies in Central district 106, and 107 and in the West West district including Constituencies 108, 109, 110, 111 and 112.
Maada Bio supporters took Kandeh Yumkella by storm in Kambia when they clinched four out of six constituencies in the district. Six out of eight constituencies in Tonkolili district and three out of six in Koinadugu were also won by Bio supporters.
There were reports of an even more commanding victory for Bio’s supporters in Port Loko and Bombali districts.
