Contrary to the stance of the main opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) trumpeted by its acting Publicity Secretary Lahai Lawrence Leema that the party is going to take stringent action against seven SLPP councilors from Kenema City Council for visiting President Koroma at State House last week to tender their apologies for a protest that was staged against President Koroma when he visited Kenema and also to invite the President to visit the district which is faced with serious essential service delivery challenges in terms of dilapidated trunk roads and what have you, Minority Leader in the House of Sierra Leone Parliament, Hon. Dr Bernadette Lahai has openly thrown her support behind the councilors for ignoring her SLPP party’s position.

Koroma And Kenema Councillors

The outward show of support for the councilors was done on Tuesday at the plenary sitting of Parliament during which she was admonishing the new Resident Minister East Karmoh Kabba to bring development to the district as the Minister promised when he was interviewed at the Parliamentary Appointments and Public Service Committee hearing.

According to Hon. Dr. Bernadette Lahai, had she been informed she “would have lead the delegation with other SLPP MPs to go to State House to meet with the President,” arguing that it is the constitutional duty of the Councilors to represent their people who are desperate for development while the councilors are facing enormous constituents pressure.

The Minority Leader’s public comments are bound to attract fresh case within the SLPP whose stance is that the APC is meddling into their party’s affairs and therefore they are officially taking the matter to the PPRC.

The Acting Publicity Secretary said the councilors’ visit was personal and not indicative of what the SLPP stand for stating that they will be discipline.

In a brief chat, Hon. Robin Farlay who the SLPP accused of having left the party but still is interfering into the party activities thereby undermining their aspirations.

He said that he sees no reason for the councilors not to go engaged the President on issues affecting their constituents adding that the SLPP Publicity Sectary, ‘is ignorant on the issues of political governance, participatory democracy and political lobbying skills.”

Apparently, Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business Hon. Ibrahim Bundu in his submission provoked and wished the SLPP well following what he described as a display of battle between ‘Pa o Pa supporters of Maada Bio for the SLPP flag bearer’ strongly supported by the likes of Hon. Foday Rado Yokie who described himself not only as SLPP but a Pa o Pa and Hon. Dr. Lahai who declared her interest in contesting for the presidency.
