Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) operating from the Head Office at Wallace Johnson Street on the 18th of December during their National Executive Committee (NEC) proposed a presidential aspirant fee for the 2018 elections to be Le120 million.
Talking to one of the aspirants Rtd. Brig Julius Maada Bio said he has no worries with the fee as he has already raised more than 200 million Leones for that.
“I have no problem with the fee and I guess others too will accept because the money goes to the party and not individuals. Last elections the fee was Le50 million and all of us agreed and we paid.”
Talking to Jacob Jusu Saffa he said they arrived on that figure after calculations of the Leone to the dollar. He said the Le120 million is the same equivalent in dollars as in 2012 elections and though it is a proposal they hope all the aspirants will accept so they can move forward.
He said the acting Chair and Leader of the party Dr Prince Harding will take them to the convention where all of them will fight for their position as they choose the new executive and presidential aspirant.
SLPP head quarter have slated February 24 to 26 for the convention to be hosted in Kenema and will be peaceful.
The other faction of the party referred to as SLPP Miatta Conference Hall headed by Chief Somano Kapen held their NEC conference on the 4th of January and they made it categorically clear that the proposed aspirant fee is not accepted by them and they will soon come up with their own.
During their NEC meeting they decided to hold the delegates conference in March but they are yet to choose specific dates for the conference.
