The fact that the “More Time” campaign has died down naturally and the “More Timers” are now nowhere to be seen, President Ernest Bai Koroma in a solitary and solemn mood at a Press Conference in State House talked about his succession plan.
This comes at a time when the battle to sit in the throne and succeed Koroma has been intensified both within his party-All People Congress where camps have been developed and covert campaigns are ongoing and the main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party where intending Presidential Aspirants are in seeming perpetual fight to succeed President Koroma.
The President last Thursday, 7th April 2016 outlined his succession plan.
“ I want to ensure that the person that will take over from me will not inherit what I inherited in 2007,” the President highlighted
He continued that it is no longer about President Koroma or the ruling All People Congress but it is about Sierra Leone and that everyone should look at Sierra Leone as the bigger picture.
According to political commentators this is the first time since the more time campaign that was calling for an unconstitutional two years for the President that he (President Koroma) has come out to talk about his succession plan.
They continued that this is a step in the right direction and that it is a clear indication that the President do not want to succeed himself in office.
Currently in the ruling party the prominent names to succeed the President are: Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara, the current Minister of Justice, Minkialu Mansaray, Minsiter of Mines, Moseray Fadika, Deputy CEO of Shandong and John Bonor Sisay, CEO Sierra Rutile while the main opposition have names like Julius Maada Bio, Andrew Keili, Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella and John Oponjo Benjamin.
Whether one of those names will succeed President Koroma or someone else will be the lucky one is a matter of time as it just remains 18 Months to the next elections
