Reigning Miss Independence Sierra Leone, Ya-Marie Sesay has unveiled her own charity foundation to be known as Orphans Rising In Unity.
Ya-Marie explained that her foundation would cater for orphans in the society especially those children without caretakers as a result of the recent Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone.
“I chose to focus my platform on orphans mainly because I knew the ebola epidemic left many children without caretakers. After traveling to Sierra Leone twice, I grew a soft spot for the children there. When deciding on my platform I knew I loved children but I wanted to help those that needed help the most therefore I chose orphans.”, She said.
U.S. Born Ya-Marie told Sierraloaded that her both parents are from Sierra Leone. She furthered that her love for the Sierra Leonean culture has been one of the intriguing forces which spear headed the launch of her foundation.
“I have always embraced my culture, I knew that I wanted to make a difference, and I felt this was a positive opportunity to do so.”, Marie said.
Miss Ya-Marie Sesay was crowned Miss Independence Sierra Leone per the recently celebrated 55th Independence. The pageant had a total of 9 contestants representing a specific district.
